Justin Van Rooyen was Born with a passion for sound. By the time he was a teenager he did FOH (front of house) sound for his local church. He doesnt only love music but loves,
how music SOUNDS. What i mean by this is that, i love making MUSIC sound amazing, lifelike, like the band is performing right in your living room. This is not easy too,
do by the way but its what drives me to do what i do.
From when he was about 13 years old he got hooked into good hifi and great sounding music. Not the hi end super expensive hifi, he was only 13 after all, but better that your average Technics music centre. This is how it started for him, Hifi and also played abit of from at church.
Justin Van Rooyen a.k.a JAYSOUL is South African born audio engineer who has worked with Youngsta CPT, Gemini Maejor, Moozlie, Soul journ just to name a few. Born and raised in the Mother City.
Growing up, he always had this thing for music, just wasnt sure in which direction music might take him. As he got older, he realised most of his music he loved and listened too was influenced by jazz and soul music.
He attended SAE institute of music studying, sound production and sound engineering. thats where things got abit more interesting for him. this is where he got to practice his craft.
He also started a Mixing and mastering company called MRM (mixing, recording and mastering ), the main idea behind the company was to create a platform for up and coming artist that doesnt have access to a recording studio. he never had access to a professional studio, untill he got accepted to study at SAE. theres alot of talented kids in the hood, that all they have is there talent but not expose to record, evens in a bed room studio. so the company allows them to have that experience.
Im just really passionate about music, i love listening to it and it helps get me through times, like hard times, good times. music means everything to me, its my obsession. i talk endlessly about what works in a song and what doesnt work.
My relationship with music is one of complete devotion. its a calling – no one chooses it. it finds you and once it takes hold, it never lets go.
