January 2017 saw the release of the 1st single of the then unknown collab album, 10 Fingers. Although the fact that the song was credited to the duo as A.K.A & Anatii, not one artist featuring the other raised debate and suspicion that the duo could potentially release a sensational collab album, an unprecedented feat in South African hip hop. By the time the second single, Don’t Forget To Pray, was released, the public was fully aware that a collab album was on its way. We already knew that the rappers work and suit each other well from 2015’s The Saga, where Anatii features A.K.A and although the song was on Anatii’s Artefacts album, it’s also included on Be Careful What You Wish For, credited as Anatii feat. A.K.A.
Anatii’s production reverberates throughout BCWYWF in its entirety (something which served him well on his Artefacts album). The 24-year-old also provides stellar vocals as well as impressive raps, which is a pleasant facet to hear on Don’t Forget To Pray as he raps in his isiXhosa home language. Kiernan Forbes aka A.K.A (😊) provides and blesses us with his “SupaMega-ness”, which never seems to disappoint. Anything other than meticulous is not on the 29-year old’s to do list as anything he touches seems to be pure gold. A.K.A has continuously insisted that his love for hip hop doesn’t cloud his overall adoration for music as he prefers his raps to cross-pollinate with other genres, but primarily rooted by hip hop. This is evident throughout Be Careful What You For as the variation of his musicality and demonstrated. A solid collab album by two juggernauts of South African hip hop.
The duo is currently on a Be Careful What You Wish Tour around the country.
