I am Bathandwa Nkambule a young, creative and vibrant foodie. I am a caterer, freelance cook, food blogger, food stylist, menu designer and recipe developer. I’m currently building my brand called Once Bitten, which deals with Pop up restaurants, coordinating food events and catering at events.
I have a blog called Once Bitten where I offer quick and easy meat free and vegan recipes with photo tutorials. The purpose is to show how easy and fun it is to prepare food and that the kitchen is not an intimidating place at all.
My lifestyle is heavily influenced by my love of food as I spend most weekend planting, digging and growing my own food, visiting different nurseries as well as helping my father our at the family farm feeding the animals and growing food.
What sets me apart is my ability to create a range of dishes from vegan to meaty dishes without compromising on flavour and the fact that I’m a self-taught cook with no formal education or training.
What inspires me is our current generation of young entrepreneurs who refuse to ignore their talents and skills. Those who are passionate, driven and make a living on doing what they love. What motivates me is the fear of living a life that is unfulfilled and without purpose. I don’t want to look back and feel like I could have but didn’t, so I’m fuelled to unapologetically live my life with what makes me happy.
I am also a founder of a NGO called Sisterhood of Power which deals with the welfare of children and empowering women. We create awareness campaigns, charity drives, community work, volunteer work, benefits and currently hold safe spaces for woman every month.
