Growing up I was always fascinated with the whole art of djing itself, just the mere fact that you could press those few buttons and the whole entire mood of the room could change right in front of you, man that’s the most incredible feeling to me.
I used to sit at home some days and just listen to different artists on Soundcloud and just download a whole lot of music and try and record mixes for hours and hours even if they weren’t any good it was during that time that I really started loving djing , and slowly I started building the confidence to actually get up there and play in front of people because you always have that fear of people not enjoying it or not feeling it , but if it’s something that you truly enjoy the fulfillment comes out of just playing good music and if people like it that’s insane .
I’ve been inspired by many DJs locally and internationally , artists such as Kaytranada, J.Robb, Sango, J-Louis, Disclosure, and there are so many people in Cape Town really pushing and working hard to create good music but they don’t always get the recognition they deserve because their music isn’t commercial enough, or people just don’t appreciate the music as much as they should which is something I hope changes in the next few years because there’s really an endless amount of talent here . Dunn Kidda ( Aidan Thompson ) was someone I’ve known for a good couple of years and listening to his sets in the club, as well as the music he’s been putting out for the last few years just made me wanna be up there even more because he just knows how to set the mood for any crowd I’ve seen him play in front of which is something I try to incorporate in my own sets whenever I play .
I’m still fresh in the industry so I still have a lot to gain but I firmly believe that persistence is your key to being a successful DJ and if you’re constantly evolving your own sound there will always be someone listening and appreciating the music just as much as you do. I know the level I’m capable of being at and I’ll keep going until I get there.
I’ve been gratefully afforded the opportunity to play at Archives monthly event Recline for the launch of the new balance 997s which is happening on the 26th of July and thereafter I will be playing at the launch of SEGUE at the Riverclub on the 8th of August so I’m gradually moving towards where I wanna be as an artist !
A big thanks to Shane Biegnaar for allowing me to promote myself on this platform, you’ll be seeing more of me around CPT that’s for certain!
