1.Who is Nyakallo and how did your journey to becoming a businessman begin?
Nyakallo is a young boy from a small town called Sasolburg in the Free State who loves doing things differently and challenging the status quo. I started my entrepreneurial journey back in high school by selling sweets and custom made timetables for students. I enjoy solving problems and had my first formal business in 2012 where we dealt with distribution and marketing for small businesses and one of my biggest clients then was Oasis water in Sasolburg.
2.What brought on the desire to get into the coffee industry?
I fell in love with coffee during my discovery of specialty coffee as I was doing research on starting the brand. At the time I wasn’t aware of how big the market was and had little knowledge about coffee besides the regular instant coffee we grew up with at home. This led me to teaching myself to become a barista.
3.How old were you when you started your business?
I was 24 years old when I started Mcofana.
4.Who is your target market for your product?
Our target market is very diverse; mostly focusing on people on the grind (hustle). On a daily basis this includes students, entrepreneurs, writers and also coffee lovers.
5.Mcofana is an interesting name for a coffee brand, how did you come up with it?
Mcofana means coffee in urban slang. It came about during a conversation between myself and an old friend in an attempt to find a name that would go well with the brand which at the time was called Project Nyaks.
6. Starting a business can be quite challenging, what are some of the tips you can give aspiring entrepreneurs in the first few months of operation?
One should always have a clear vision and focus on that vision. Challenges are always going be there; always love what you do and give it your all.
7.What do think contributed to your success thus far?
Being able to channel to channel my focus into one thing and also allowing myself to have fun in the processand therefore enjoy and love what I do.
8.What fuels your passion and motivation for life and business?
I want to be great at what I do and my ability to learn from my mistakes enables me to be resilient.
