Oppo, whose main operations are based in Dongguan, China has recently established another home in Woodmead, Johannesburg. Oppo is owned by the company BBK Electronics which is also home to brands such as Vivo and OnePlus which are familiar to the South African Market.
With this new product offering, Oppo says that they plan on offering the South African market “the best blend of premium smartphone features”. Their product offering is made up of features like large main camera sensors; big, crisp displays as well as long-lasting, fast charging batteries at an affordable price.
This is not all, Oppo prides itself in creating phones with excellent audio quality. Their phones come with pre-installed stereo speakers, bespoke sound tuning and high-resolution audio support. These features are available on all the phones they plan to sell in South Africa and carry through onto their range of wireless headphones.
It has recently been reported that Oppo is on track to grow their global sales by 30% in 2020 to 150million smartphone units.This growth in sales can be attributed to the release of 5G technology in China, the Nikkei publication has reported.
Oppo currently holds an 8% market share of the global smartphone niche. The organisation is on track to become the third-largest smartphone brand, after Samsung and Apple, in 2021. The brand is set to replace Huawei in the top three smartphone brands rankings. This comes after Huawei has been publicly attacked by the US government. This has impacted the company badly and has resulted in bans on their commercial agreements with US companies like Google and Facebook.
The A72 Features
The Oppo A72 is available in two colours: Aurora Purple and Twilight Black. The A72 is equipped with four cameras – a large 48MP main camera sensor, two portrait style lenses and a 119° ultra-wide angle camera.The phone also comes with a punch hole in the top left corner of the front display that houses a 16MP selfie camera.
The Oppo A72 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset and 4GB RAM. This feature makes this phone an absolute must-have for anyone who is interested in cellphone games such as PUBG mobile. The Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset also enhances the phone’s camera capabilities, performance and security performance. The phone also comes with an Android operating system, however, it is also equipped with its own open operating system – ColorOS – as a value-added extra on top of the Android 10.
Lastly, The phone comes with an 18W fast charger as well a huge battery-life. The phone comes with a 5 000mAh battery that can easily last over the course of two days.
The A72 currently retails at R6 999 or from R399 on a Vodacom contract. Which is currently the price point for phones like the Galaxy A51, Galaxy A31 and the Huawei P40. The phone has currently been retailing on the market as of 7 October 2020. The A53 and the A15 will be available from 7 November 2020. These phones will exclusively be available from Vodacom but will be available from other retailers in 2021.
