Speks En Boentjies Apparel is a “fresh on the scene” local clothing brand that has been established in Cape Town. Myself (Clint James (24)) and Clayton Cyster (23) brought out what for many years was only something we’ve always joked about and never actioned into reality – Finally!

At the time of the brands conception we both were holding down full-time jobs, but nevertheless decided and committed to bringing this brand to life.

The brand was/is influenced a lot by the environment we find/found ourselves surrounded with. We wanted to breathe life into the way predominantly young people on the Cape Flats and in the various suburbs around Cape Town communicate. People communicate on a daily bases in many different languages and within that, chances are they have their own ‘Slang terminology’. Now In the coloured community using ‘Slang’ comes as easy a “kus biere” on month end. Our goal is to bring this “Slang/ raw” Cape Town culture to life in a creative yet stylish way through our product offerings.

What we’ve been putting out there to the community via our social media platforms and word of mouth has been very well received and both myself and Clayton are most grateful and humbled by that. As a growing brand in the Local Clothing Space we strive to always bring you Stylish Street-wear apparel and accessories to ensure that you stay “ge-yak” and looking good, as well as stay representing a local brand, started by two local guys with an idea that they weren’t fully ready to commit to, so instead they thought they’d play for “Speks En Boentjies” in the massive game of local clothing, and thus the name of the brand was decided.

Clayton and myself have always been very goal orientated and this project has been a mutual goal for us to land this brand comfortably – and whilst doing that we also took the opportunity to use our platform to inspire other young people out there by showing them that you do not need a lot of resources to make something a reality.

This year promises to be an exciting one for the brand, as potential collaborations are one the cards for working with various creatives across other artistic platforms.

Keep an eye out and watch our social media platforms to stay informed about any new product launches by following the brand on Facebook and on Instagram. And remember “Don’t Koppel Stoff”
